Jonah's Video

If you know me well, you know I'm always working on some sort of "Jonah Project". If it's not his novel than it's his picture book. And if it's not his picture book, it's his Christmas stocking. And if it's not his Christmas stocking, it's his chest. I have so many things I want to do in memory of Jonah that I seem to always be working on something. Which is good I guess. It's how I mourn. I feel like if I always have something more I need to do for him before I'm "done" than I can keep him alive forever. Some day I'll need to get over that feeling, but I can tell that that day is nowhere nearby.

I've wanted a short video of Jonah's pictures and clips since he passed away but it's realllllly hard for me to be "creative". It's certainly not professional quality, but I'm glad to have a nice video to look at whenever I want. Enjoy :)

Happy Birthday Ransom!

Today is Ransom's 27th birthday!! So old, huh!? :)

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to supplement his bbq pulled pork sandwich dinner with a post of 27 reasons why Ransom is the best!

1. He is now making a conscious effort to put his shoes away again.
2. Even after 2 years of trial and error, Ransom has yet to complain about what I make for dinner.
3. He is at the law library right now when most of us would take our birthday as a day off from their responsibilities.
4. Op, never mind, he just called saying he's on his way home right now :)
5. He is always asking me what he can do better
6. If ever I can think of anything he could do for me (rare!) he always does it!
7. He is ever so handsome!
8. He is the peacemaker in our marriage.
9. He is never too busy to stop and help me.
10. He is extremely ambitious.
11. He is a really good friend.
12. He mans up the dishes every night.
13. He says, "I love you" at least 3 times a day.
14. He always opens doors for me.
15. He loves to tease me.
16. He has such a fun sense of humor.
17. He will never say anything to hurt anyone's feelings.
18. He is an amazing dad.

19. He is extremely smart.
20. He never ever thinks of himself first.
21. He is a really good son.
22. He loves the gospel.
23. He is the most humble person I know.
24. He has an amazing singing voice. (Although you'll have to sit by him at church to ever hear it cause he's shy!)
25. He puts up with me. No matter what.
26. He is the spiritual rock in our relationship.
27. He took a chance with me!

I love you Ransom! Happy Birthday!

It is January, Right?

So yesterday I was called in to my extremely part time job (This was my first time getting called in since I started in November). And seeing as I had no idea that I would be driving around in a golf cart the whole time checking in on a few baseball tournaments the complex I work for was hosting, I didn't think to put on sunscreen. I mean, it IS January, right!?

Weather perspective:
Provo, UT: 32 degrees
Tacoma, WA: 45 degrees.
Tucson, AZ: 75 degrees!

Lesson learned.

So Close!

Well I'm so close to fixing my blog thanks to all of your help! Turns out my PC didn't have the right something or rather to load the template editor. So I used Ransom's Mac and I'm pleased with how all the fonts turned out EXCEPT the actual post text. It's still black no matter what I do! And believe me, I've actually tried everything google suggests. So it's up to you digital geniuses! If anyone can help me, I would love you forever! :) And if not, you'll all just have to read my mismatched blog for the rest of your lives!

Now onto the main event...

I have a bone to pick with my husband. You see, when we moved into our current apartment in August, we discussed our pet peeves and each promised the other to stop doing them. Ransom's pet peeve was me leaving the toilet seat cover open. (My family never closes the toilet seat... and honestly I think it's more gross to have to touch the thing every time I use it than to have it open!) But despite my thinking his pet peeve was irrational, I vowed to change if he could do just one thing for me. Just one, simple, easy thing.

We have a closet where we keep our clothes/shoes upstairs and downstairs there is a basket right near the front door for shoes. And considering our apartment is a whopping 425 sq ft per floor, I really don't think it's unreasonable to walk those 8 feet across the floor to it's destination.

Well at first we struggled to correct our "bad" habits. But in about 2 weeks time, we had gotten them down. The toilet seat cover stayed down and the shoes lived in the basket and closet. Until one day. One day everything changed. I don't know what brought on the change. I don't know what triggered it. But one day Ransom left his shoes out. And every day since then he has forgotten again.

I tried bringing it to his attention, and he has denied it. But little did he know I was documenting him. So here, my dear Ransom, is your proof.

Just to give you a little perspective, here is where Ransom decided his shoes should go:

And this is where they are supposed to go:

Sometimes, I score a 2 for 1 shot.

And my personal favorite:

Dear Ransom, your precious toilet seat cover is in jeopardy. Consider yourself warned!

I Give Up!

Well, I had big plans for this afternoon. Since today is Ransom's first day back to school, I figured it was finally time to figure out this blog thing. You see, I'm a fake. Back in the day when this blog was created, a gracious friend of mine actually designed my layout, changed my fonts, put up the thingy on top that said our names, etc etc. And while I am very grateful to her, I am now left without the slightest clue of how to change the fonts to something that actually matches the new backdrop. (Please note, that despite my blogger illiteracy, I did in fact manage the new background and button!)

Someone, I'm begging you, please help me! :)

Camelback Mountain

This weekend we went to Phoenix to hang out with our friends. I was told to bring some hiking shoes and shorts for a short hike with 2 of Ransom's old roommates. I assumed a low elevation, short walk among the cacti and I didn't even bring stuff to shower with for our group date later that night. Oh, was I wrong! Cameback Mountain is anything but an easy stroll.

I actually laughed out loud when I saw our destination. But being the competitive spirit I am, I followed these three athletic boys up and up and up.

I was literally on all fours half the way up and half the way down. But we made it!

(And I did manage a shower before our date)

Never Forgotten

Well we're back in sunny AZ after our much needed vacation home and I feel that my blogging sabbatical should come to a close with it!

We had such a nice time visiting with our family and friends and to be honest, we really weren't happy when our vacation came to an end. Every other year when I've come home for the holidays or the summer, I'm always ready to go back to my own apartment. I always loved visiting WA, but I never got homesick for it. But this time was really different. Almost immediately after landing in WA I felt Jonah so strongly. When we went to church the next day with Ransom's family, we sat in the same pew we sat in so many times this summer and I realized that Jonah had literally been there. Physically (although inside of me... but still). It was such a warm and calming feeling to know that everywhere I was in WA, Jonah had been too. Ransom felt the same way and because of it, we're pretty sure that after law school, we're headed back to the great northwest!

Christmas was very different this year. In a good way. Of course it was still hard to watch my nieces and nephews open their presents in birth order, but Jonah was anything but left out. It seemed like EVERYONE was thinking about us as surprise after surprise reminded us how loved we are.

The first surprise happened when Ransom and I woke up Christmas morning and headed over to the cemetery to open a few gifts with Jonah. When we got there, there was a little bouquet of blue daisies lying on Jonah's grave marker. They looked like they had been there less than an hour. We've asked around to all of our family and we still don't know who the mystery flowers are from. But if you, mystery flower deliverer, are reading this, thank you so much! That was such a wonderfully timed surprise.

My sister Brie gave us a little wrapped box to take with us to the cemetery and open. If you can't tell from the picture, it's a Jonah and the Whale figurine. We loved it so much that we didn't want to leave it at the cemetery. We have it set up at home instead :) Thanks Brie.

Also at the cemetery, Jonah (with help from me) gave this bookmark to Ransom. It has Ransom's favorite Jonah picture in it.

After the cemetery, we headed to Ransom's parent's home. After a beautiful speech from Ransom's dad about the true meaning of Christmas, I was handed the first present. Inside was this beautiful sterling silver bracelet from all of Ransom's siblings with charms that spell out "JONAH" and "KENT" and then little hearts that say "mom" and "family" and "I Love You" with a ruby red (Jonah's birthstone) jewel on it. I was so surprised and so happy! I LOVE it! Ransom was also given a gift from his siblings; a pocket watch with Jonah's name and birth date on it. :)

Once Christmas presents at the Young's were opened, we went back to my parent's house for round two. My brother Chad and sister-in-law Megan and their kiddos surprised us yet again when they gave us this precious ornament. It's a letter block with a side that says, "Baby's 1st Christmas". When you open it up, it has a picture of Jonah and the words, "Jonah... Forever Loved". I love it so much and am really excited to set it on our tree next year.

We were also surprised with a dove ornament from Ransom's mom and a little paper dove ornament from the cemetery. So thoughtful! And while this isn't new, the hospital sent us this ornament with Jonah's hand and foot prints this summer. I think I'll have to have a special Jonah tree next year to facilitate all of his ornaments :)

And finally, I was surprised by my mom when she gave me this special box with a mom holding her baby. Inside, the text says, "So Loved... So Very Loved". I decided to keep my "Jonah Jewelery" in it :)

Needless to say, Jonah was not forgotten this Christmas. And he never will be. Thank you family, friends and readers for making our Christmas unforgettable.
